I am grateful for spiritual progress
I am grateful for spiritual progress. As Mrs. Eddy states in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 233): "Every day makes its demands upon us for higher proofs rather than professions of Christian power. These proofs consist solely in the destruction of sin, sickness, and death by the power of Spirit, as Jesus destroyed them. This is an element of progress, and progress is the law of God, whose law demands of us only what we can certainly fulfill." My life has been full of these proofs. Each demonstration has convinced me that once one has a glimpse of the truth of scientific being he has no choice but to go forward spiritually.
My parents found Christian Science shortly before I was born, and I was raised in a home that depended on Science to meet all its needs. Many beautiful healings resulted from applying God's divine law of good. But it was not until I was married and had children of my own that I began to realize the necessity of learning to apply God's law myself. Since then, through regular study of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, class instruction, and daily application of Science, I am beginning to understand how the beautiful healings I saw as a child came about.
One such insight came after attending a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. A testifier brought out a point concerning the healing of the man at the pool of Bethesda (see John, Chap. 5). She mentioned that even though there were a multitude of people seeking healing there that day, only one was healed—the one who was listening—the one who was receptive to the healing Christ, Truth, presented by Christ Jesus. This listener heard the command to arise and walk, obeyed, and was healed.
