When your older children are on their own ...

Are They on Their Own?

[For parents]

When a young adult is living away from home for the first time, the parents may be apprehensive. Perhaps it is because they haven't released their child from a possessive hold. It may be difficult for the dedicated parent to refrain from trying to impose his will, to let go and trust the innate goodness of his child to guide him in the midst of shifting standards of behavior.

Those who are learning through the study and application of Christian Science that God, man's only parent, is continuously caring for His child understand that their real responsibility is to know this truth regularly. Such prayer is an effective support and protection for their children when they're trying it alone for the first time at college, in the armed services, or in a job.

One of the most difficult challenges a parent can have to meet is the question of his child and sex. Often very little restriction is placed on the behavior of young people away from home. Will the young man or woman be able to maintain a standard of purity in the face of many temptations and few, if any, restraints?
