I was raised in a Christian Science home

I was raised in a Christian Science home. After leaving high school and Sunday School, however, I got away from this early training. I did marry a fellow Christian Scientist, though, and placed our two sons in a Christian Science Sunday School, and my husband and I joined a local branch church. Although I participated in church work and read the weekly Lesson-Sermon, I did not realize to the fullest the import and depth of these lessons until I learned the value of deeper study.

One experience that came to us through turning wholeheartedly to Christian Science for help concerns our thirteen-year-old son. Three years ago he and his younger brother were on an island in our lake using a newly acquired Boy Scout hatchet. In chopping he cut deeply into his ankle. His brother came hurrying in to report this accident. He said that his brother was bleeding so badly and was in such pain that he couldn't get home alone, so his father got him and brought him home and washed and bandaged the wound.

Because of my husband's taking over the physical care of the child, I did not have to take in the material picture, so I held to this truth which Mrs. Eddy gives us in Science and Health (p. 424): "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection." When fear seemed to take hold of my son and me, however, a Christian Science practitioner was called. She came to our home to talk with our son, and soon after her visit began, the boy's fears were dispelled so that he was able to spend a restful night.
