Health Care for Infants

Gentle handling, a warm cot, an appropriate regular diet, and loving, watchful care to ensure safety and comfort—in the past these were usually considered to be all that a newborn child would need. But today there are various medical measures that parents are encouraged to take to defend their children from disease. In fact, strong pressure is often exerted to submit them to inoculations that are currently said to be necessary health precautions.

Wise young parents consider carefully. Should they follow the medical advice or not? The decision they make will depend largely upon their personal experience in maintaining their own health. If both are accustomed to rely upon material means for the prevention and cure of disease, they are likely to choose the same means for their children.

But parents can prove that dependence on God is the more effective way of keeping safe and well. A good understanding of God, divine Love, as the all-powerful creator of the universe and man equips one to utilize Love's law of harmony in daily life. It dissolves the fear that seems natural to human parents by bringing them a strong assurance of God's continual control over His creation. Those who have this understanding can confidently acknowledge God's ability to provide health and harmony for His own sons and daughters—all of them, including their own children, who are, as they know, always in God's care as Christ Jesus taught. Then it is natural for them to exercise the right that parents have in many countries to claim exemption from medical means of immunizing their children against disease, because they know that God's law has already ensured their immunity.
