After I had been married three years, I became interested in Christian Science through my sister and her husband. I was familiar with other religions, and my father had been a missionary overseas. However, only Science satisfied my questions about God, for it is the study of God, enabling one to apply specific truths to his life and enabling one to understand and express God's attributes.
New views of this truth continue to be evident, and my joy is endless. The example of Christ Jesus becomes clearer and more meaningful to me every time I read our Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly. I am grateful for the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mrs. Eddy, for her work and her complete trust in God to show her the way.
We have had many healings in our family. One of our daughters was healed of frequent nosebleeds of long duration. A Christian Science practitioner was called to pray for her, and she was healed. This was ten years ago, and she has not had nosebleeds since.
Another daughter fell out of a garage attic onto a concrete floor, landing on her arm. A neighbor who was a medical nurse told us the arm was broken. Our daughter and I went into her room to pray and study the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Within a week she was using her arm, and in two weeks it was completely normal.
This same daughter was also instantaneously healed of ivy poisoning. One day after playing in an open field, she came home covered with red spots. We called a practitioner for treatment. The child was healed while talking on the phone with the practitioner, who assured her she was in God's loving, protective care. This healing impressed my husband, who is not a Scientist.
Our son, after one of his races as a junior skier, took a jump and landed with his ski tips buried in the snow. Someone heard him groan, and called for a toboggan to take him down the hill. There, our son thanked the concerned ski patrolmen and limped away. The boy knew how to call on God in a time of need, and he prayed for himself. When he came home that night, he had no limp, and was a very grateful ten-year-old.
I am truly thankful for all the workers in Christian Science and for Science and Health, which provides the true key to understanding the Bible spiritually and leaves us with no contradictions in its interpretation.
