A few years ago I became quite ill and unable to move about normally. At the time, I was employed by a large corporation. When, after several days of absence, it became apparent that I could not return to work, my employer requested a physician's statement in order that the company could place me on leave of absence. The medical diagnosis was acute arthritis.
A lifelong student of Christian Science, I turned wholeheartedly to its study for healing. This became a time of great spiritual growth for me. I clung to a line from the Christian Science Hymnal (No. 123): "I only design/Thy dross to consume and thy gold to refine." The full verse reads:
