The Witness

The back door slammed shut as Deirdre ran into the kitchen. "Mom! Mom!" she sobbed. "Just look at my poster." She threw a torn, dirty piece of construction paper down on the kitchen table.

"Doug? Again?" Mom asked.

Deirdre nodded. "It was one of the three best posters in the whole third grade, and he ruined it." Tears were running down her face. "You didn't even get to see it." She threw herself down on a chair and buried her head in her arms on the table. "That big bully! He's mean and I hate him."
