"Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need...

"Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 494). I have proved this statement many times. I can say that my life today is far from what it was some fifty-two years ago, when we had our first healing in Christian Science.

This healing was that of our daughter, who was afflicted with a serious contagious disease. She had been unconscious for over a week and unable to take food normally. Our family doctor engaged a specialist who examined her and pronounced that she would not survive the night. The doctors said that the only thing left was mother love and prayer.

Our next door neighbors were Christian Scientists and had tried to interest us in it, taking us to lectures on Science and sometimes to church. However, we did not seem to grasp the full significance of the religion. After the doctors left, we thought that "mother love and prayer" sounded a little like what Christian Science taught, so we asked our neighbor about it and told her what the doctors had said. The woman, a class-taught student of Science, assured us that nothing could interfere with the life of our little girl, as she was really the perfect expression of infinite Life and retained that perfection. Our neighbor gave us Christian Science literature and told us that she would help us through prayer, and that we should read the ninety-first Psalm.
