While I was driving home after a meeting one evening, my car was struck by a hit-and-run driver. It was knocked across the street and demaged beyond repair. I had two women with me, and we were taken to the hospital. The two passengers in my car were not badly hurt. When I regained consciousness, I kept declaring "God is here, all around me." The doctor put his hand on my shoulder to comfort me. He said I had been badly injured. I learned later that I had been seriously injured from my waist to my head. My mouth was damaged, and I had cuts on my face. However, I was given no medication.

The doctor kindly agreed to call a Christian Science practitioner for me to ask for treatment. A nurse who was on duty at the time told me later the doctor had said he expected me to have passed on by the time he returned from making the telephone call. The practitioner did not come to the hospital but began prayerful metaphysical treatment for me. I responded at once. There was no pain after the treatment started. The doctor checked me every twenty or thirty minutes. He kept saying, "I have never seen anything like this before." He had never known such a fast recovery in all his years. Finally, he agreed I could go home with a woman who lives with me, and signed a release.

I arrived home within a few hours of the accident. The next day I got up at the usual time and got breakfast. I was thinking of things I had learned in Christian Science. I realized that God's image is spiritual and perfect now. Man is indestructible. In the infinite realm of Mind, God, there are no accidents. I affirmed many spiritually scientific statements like these.
