In Command

Something that causes great anxiety to many people is the feeling that their affairs—their finances, their young families, their physical well-being—are out of control. In the face of these situations we need not feel helpless. Everything real, Christian Science helps us realize, is always within the vision and law of divine Mind and so is always under intelligent control. This truth can adjust our problems when we apply it scientifically, under the direction of omnipresent Love, God. In this way we make meaningful in our everyday lives the eternal truth that God loves us.

We know that we're in command as we get a better sense of our identity. To identify oneself as a mortal is to subject oneself to the accidents and hazards, the ills and limitations, that material consciousness ascribes to mortal being. Mary Baker Eddy gives us a simple, but essentially practical, rule for maintaining a sense of dominion over whatever confronts us. She writes, "You command the situation if you understand that mortal existence is a state of self-deception and not the truth of being." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 403;

"Mortal existence is a state of self-deception"! Every problem that can conceivably face us is linked to the belief in the actuality of mortal existence. This so-called existence is a state of selfdelusion on the part of spurious, nonexistent, unreal consciousness, termed in Christian Science mortal mind. Mortal existence is not a kind of actual existence we must outgrow, but it is claim which we can master through understanding its illusiveness as a consequence of the allness of Love.
