In Acts we read (17:22, 23): "Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you."
I found myself in a city in the interior of the country in which we had made our home for thirteen years. We lived happily there, without fear or worries of any kind. But one day the unexpected occurred: after a stormy scene my husband abandoned the home, leaving six children; the oldest was twelve and the youngest, one year old.
Thus I was left to struggle with the situation alone. I tried in vain to overcome the deep pain, and during the nights, while my children slept, I wept desperately, sitting by a window, hoping in vain that he would return.
