Putting Off Every Weight

In the study of Christian Science, one learns that it is unnatural to carry around excessive bodily weight.

The real man, the perfect likeness of Spirit, the complete idea of Mind, is a spiritual being, not a physical organism capable of putting on (or taking off) matter. But too many people are heavy-laden with false, material concepts, which bring on heaviness, first in thought, then in the body.

In the book of Hebrews we read, "Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us." Heb. 12:1; Is one's "weight" belief in the reality of matter as substance? Is it belief in lack of God-bestowed symmetry, order, stability? Is it a false sense of responsibility, self-pity, resentment, self-justification, or willful planning—or boredom, anger, envy, pride, selfishness, or hate? Whatever erroneous belief one harbors in thought becomes the burden, the feeling of heaviness, which forms an outward expression in the body of the believer.
