Are You an In-law?
"Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God."
For a long time I thought these words were the pledge of a bride to her bridegroom and vice versa. It was quite a surprise to discover they were the loving words of a daughter-in-law to her mother-in-law around 350 B. C., as set down in the Old Testament in the book of Ruth, Chapter 1, verse 16.
A far cry from the frequent present-day relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law! As a matter of fact, for quite some time there has been recognized prejudice between the two, inviting friction, heartache, even the breaking up of marriages. Why?
