"We gotta win!" one of the players shouted in a hateful, threatening voice.

As I was the physical education teacher, I turned to correct her. But I saw that it was the one student in the class I had not been able to reach, so I decided not to say anything.

I was playing on the opposite side of this intramural volleyball game because one of the students was absent.
