The Room Furnished with Joy
We don't have to go around feeling depressed and lonely, as though our consciousness were a room left unfurnished and barren!
"He shall shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready," Luke 22:12; Christ Jesus told his disciples, referring to the proprietor of the house where the feast of the Passover was to be held.
As I studied this passage long ago, the conviction grew that God has provided for each one of us what could be called a large upper room of conscious spiritual selfhood, not empty and depressing but furnished with loveliness, dominion, and joy. I saw that instead of waiting for someone else to make the room ready and spread the feast before us, we ourselves must demonstrate this true spiritual selfhood to be our own, here and now.
