For eleven years I have known the wonderful protection of Christian Science. I became convinced of the truth of this religion through reading the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. An aunt had given me a copy. The chapter on Prayer completely convinced me that this was the understanding of God I had been unconsciously searching for, a God of Love who is always in control and has all power, who heals us and meets all our needs. I immediately decided to follow the teaching of this religion insofar as I was able.

It was not too long before I proved its efficacy for myself. A former condition, which had been diagnosed as a blood clot, returned in my leg. This time the symptoms were just as frightening, but I decided to use my understanding of Science. For two days I attempted to work prayerfully for myself but realized I needed additional help, so I called a Christian Science practitioner. She recommended that I study the hymn which begins with the words "I walk with Love" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 139). It has a healing message, and I literally and figuratively walked with Love, never giving in to the suggestion of immobilizing myself. This had been the advice I had followed for six weeks under material medicine on the previous occasion. In less than a week I was walking almost naturally with little swelling left, and within two weeks we had a family move which entailed much packing, cleaning, and unpacking that I was able to do without discomfort. All was well.

There have been many other healings through the years, among them the complete disappearance of a sizable swelling in my neck. Since I had had an operation for goiter years before I became a student of Science, this manifestation looked familiar. The healing was completed through my own understanding as I learned to look away from matter. I was not even aware of when the swelling disappeared, until one day I looked at my neck and the swelling was no longer there.
