During my senior year in high school, the question of "which college" received my quick decision in favor of a state university. An excellent out-of-state college had been recommended to me, but I had developed a preconceived picture of the school. Yet as my thought became more receptive, I realized that the state university was hardly comparable to this college.

Then, feeling a strong sense of direction, I applied to the out-of-state college even though the tuition was far beyond what was readily available to me. There had been a complete reversal in my thought from a negative conviction to positive receptivity. Mrs. Eddy says, "The only excuse for entertaining human opinions and rejecting the Science of being is our mortal ignorance of Spirit,— ignorance which yields only to the understanding of divine Science, the understanding by which we enter into the kingdom of Truth on earth and learn that Spirit is infinite and supreme"(Science and Health, pp. 280, 281). If this was a step in the right direction, I knew it would be shown me and I could follow God's guidance completely.

I discontinued communication with the state university, and was accepted by the out-of-state college in June, but informed that there was no space for me. My name was placed on a waiting list. I inquired about off-campus housing, but was unable to locate a room. Throughout the summer I was notified of my position on this list, which altered slightly. College authorities and my family encouraged me to make other arrangements. I continued to pray, using Christ Jesus' prayer, "Nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt"(Matt. 26:39).
