Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth (Luke 12:15)
The Greek word translated "covetousness" means literally "avarice." It expresses a craving for more, whether or not it is needed. The New English Bible translates the verse: "Beware! Be on your guard against greed of every kind, for even when a man has more than enough, his wealth does not give him life."
