When I was a teen-ager and a new student of Christian Science...
When I was a teen-ager and a new student of Christian Science, I was healed of polio through the consecrated prayer and help of a Christian Science practitioner. The fear which gripped my family when the symptoms began to appear one by one was eliminated by the practitioner's frequent reminder that we must place "radical reliance on Truth" in accordance with Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 167): "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."
My reaction to that first healing was to want to shout my joy and gratitude from the housetops and to reach all who needed the truth. I learned by experience and the kind direction of the practitioner, my Sunday School teachers, and parents to temper this enthusiasm and zeal with love and understanding and wait until I knew when it was right to reach out to my brother man.
Little did I realize that my gratitude after that first healing was only the beginning. My thought was opened to receive more good from the eternal source, and gratitude has grown increasingly through the years.
