LIFE IN THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY
Some Thoughts on Open Dorms
Among the many challenges that face young people in the academic community today are those related to open dormitories. This mode of housing takes different forms, which vary considerably from school to school. On some campuses men and women live on the same floor. In others there is "open visitation," where men and women may visit each other's rooms at all hours. This more integrated style of living, although freer in many respects than the more conventional dormitory arrangement, also brings challenges, and perhaps temptation.
What does one do, for example, when a roommate brings a date back to the room for the night? Can an understanding of God help? Yes!
Christian Science teaches that the power of God is an ever-present help. This healing force is always available to us, and when we apply it, we always know what to do. We can utilize this power to correct inharmonious relationships, help us make right decisions, dispel a sense of fear and pressure, and bring about a sense of God-governed home.
