Forgive Them

Probably one of the hardest things most of us have to do is to forgive others, particularly those who appear to deliberately go out of their way to mistreat us. Take that Army sergeant I had. Do you know what he did to me?

Well, in front of everyone one day he picked three others and me as the four worst troublemakers in the whole platoon! I could hardly believe it. Neither could anyone else. The other three, the consensus was, probably deserved it. But me? Fun-loving, yes, but troublemaker, never. And here I was, unjustly embarrassed, and restricted the following weekend—me, third in command of the whole platoon! Was I furious!

The barracks resounded with helpful suggestions as to what I should do, most of which would have promptly sent me right to the stockade. But I knew what I should do. I should pray.
