When I was six years old, I attended Christian Science Sunday School for the first time. A year later, cuts on both my knees, from climbing a grassy slope, became infected. My parents decided to rely entirely on Christian Science. This was my first real test. The picture was so bad that Mother said I could have medical assistance if I was afraid. With intense, daily study of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, especially the chapter entitled "Prayer," the infection was healed, and a similar condition never returned.

During my university years I drifted from Science, but I never abandoned it and always enjoyed attending Christian Science services when visiting my parents. During one such visit I was healed of pneumonia in three days by my father's prayerful treatment. He was just beginning his career as a listed practitioner in The Christian Science Journal.

At one point when I came to a dead end in my chosen profession, I reached out again to Christian Science, even though in a far-off country, and selected a practitioner from the Journal. I called on him frequently, and one of the first results of his prayerful help was the sudden healing of the smoking habit of twenty-four years' duration. I was also healed of the thought that I found pleasure in strong drink, and later on I also stopped using wine.
