through exchanging objects of sense for spiritual ideas

Christ Jesus often stated the need to spiritualize our thinking. For instance, he said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." John 6:63; The mental process of applying Christian Science to human situations is explained in Science and Health, where Mary Baker Eddy tells us, "Divine Science, rising above physical theories, excludes matter, resolves things into thoughts, and replaces the objects of material sense with spiritual ideas." Science and Health, p. 123.

In this challenging statement we are assured of increasing freedom from physical theories through the exclusion of matter as a valid entity. Through divine Science we identify the thoughts that things only represent and replace these thoughts with spiritual ideas. Mrs. Eddy here clearly describes the progressive nature of the steps comprising the thought-spiritualizing process.

There are frequent opportunities to apply this process in daily affairs. To the sincere student of Christian Science the method is virtually continuous, involving constant disciplining of thought. In business, for example, problems of organization often seem to be closely related to personnel matters. Possibly there is a shortage of personnel, or existing personnel seem inadequate and unqualified. Or it may be that the organization structure has led to certain faulty, strained relationships in some areas.
