As a child I had the opportunity of going to a Christian Science Sunday School

As a child I had the opportunity of going to a Christian Science Sunday School. But after my marriage, because my husband opposed this religion and at that time I did not fully appreciate its value, I left its teachings for many years. With my insistence, however, my husband allowed our three sons to go to the Sunday School, even though, at that time, he and I did not attend church.

One morning when he was about ten years old, one of our sons became extremely ill. I had little faith in medicine, but neither was I practicing Christian Science. Finally the doctor was called to the house, but by the time he arrived after much delay, the dear child could barely breathe. He had a high fever, and his condition was most frightening. The doctor examined him and ordered us to take him to the hospital immediately that night. The diagnosis was pneumonia.

As soon as the doctor left, I went to the child, who loved his Christian Science Sunday School. I recalled things from my earlier years in the Sunday School and repeated these to our son. One of these was "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy. The opening words are (p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." After repeating the entire statement, we proceeded to drive to the hospital. On the way the little boy said in a perfectly normal voice, "I am so grateful that God is making me well!"
