(ba'-ash-a—a as in able, both a's as in alone). Ruler of the northern kingdom of Israel ca. 900-877 b.c. Baasha's army kept considerable pressure on the southern kingdom of Judah ruled by Asa. His fortification of Ramah, about five miles north of Jerusalem, was intended to enforce a blockade.
