The Problem Factory

One pollution-producing factory that all of us are occasionally employed in is the problem factory. Who has not sometimes been tempted to ask anxiously, "What will I do if such and such a thing happens tomorrow?"

This fearful projection of possible future problems is directly contrary to the words of Christ Jesus: "Take ... no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself."Matt. 6:34; The Master's counsel was not meant to make us live unwisely, but was intended to encourage us to stop worrying over things that will never happen if we follow his footsteps to the best of our ability.

Instead, we are apt to unwittingly allow fears of possible future troubles to clog our minds. It may be something like, "If the weather is bad next week, what will I do about my vacation?" or "If I don't have the money to pay this bill at the end of the month, what will they think?" or even "If Aunt Matilda comes to visit when Uncle Jim is here, how can we take care of both of them?"
