As I read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, for the first time, and earnestly imbibed some of its truths relating to man's spiritual nature, I was instantly healed of pain from which I had suffered over a period of many years. My testimony of this healing appeared in the Sentinel of July 13, 1968.

Some thirty or more years after this healing my understanding of Christian Science was put to the test. I was suddenly overcome with severe pain, which was later diagnosed as caused by prolapse, or a slipped disk pressing on a sciatic nerve. I had to get help. Christian Science treatment continued for some weeks. Through my own prayerful work done at this time I recognized the condition as a challenge presenting the new, spiritual birth and demanding purification of my thought.

Almost a year passed, and I was again overcome suddenly, this time more seriously but for a shorter period. The outcome was a recognition of my divine sonship, and an understanding of the divine Principle of Christian Science healing. This recognition and understanding came through the consecrated work of the practitioner and my own prayers, which included an earnest effort to obey the First Commandment "Thou shalt have no other gods before me" (Ex. 20:3) and "A Rule for Motives and Acts" in the Manual of the Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy. The latter includes these words (Art. VIII, Sect. 1): "Neither animosity nor mere personal attachment should impel the motives or acts of the members of The Mother Church. In Science, divine Love alone governs man."
