Although I had been sickly since childhood, I did not turn to Christian Science for physical healing. I had read the Bible through each year for seven consecutive years, but I felt it was too much to seek healing from a religion.

However, I was not satisfied with a Sunday religion. I wanted something to bring me closer to God all through the week. Because of the example of a friend who was a Christian Scientist I started attending the Church of Christ, Scientist. It became clear to me that spiritual healing was right because Christ Jesus healed in the temple and told the disciples to do likewise. I also found in Christian Science what would draw me closer to God and what I had been searching for.

Among the healings I have experienced through prayer to God in Christian Science was a condition of long standing, diagnosed by a physician as tuberculosis of the colon and of the blood, previously resulting in my being in a sanatorium many months without improving, and for years I was bedridden at home. During long, unavailing medical treatment, many phases of exploratory surgery had been resorted to. Again and again the medical prognosis gave a hopeless verdict.
