Only Good Is Going On

I once had a patch of carnations growing outside my front door. As they began to bloom, revealing exquisite beauty, color, and fragrance, one held my attention; it didn't open as quickly as the others. As I passed by the patch of carnations, this thought came to me. "Why, even though you can't see the growth taking place within the bud of the flower, wonderful things are going on inside!" This thought wakened me to realize that good was actually going on in my own experience right where a painful physical condition seemed to be.

I had become very discouraged because the healing was delayed. But from that time forward I was able to forget my body and leave the problem in God's hands, expecting only good to unfold in my experience. To outward appearances things hadn't changed, but I remained confident. A complete healing soon resulted; in fact, I was unaware when it actually took place.

In winter, trees and shrubs look dormant or dead. Yet within each tree and shrub, buds and leaves have been formed. When spring arrives, buds swell and burst with beauty. This reveals to us that good was present all winter long although hidden from outward view.
