Loss Can Be Gain

What appears as loss need not be loss. When we look to the divine Mind only—when we entertain the Christ, the healing Truth of God and man, in our thought of any situation—the grievous and false sense of that situation is replaced by harmony. Then, right where imperfection, lack, or loss would seem impressed on our thinking, the light of Truth reveals the substance of spiritual reality, and there is gain of good. Our experience changes for the better.

A young man nearing graduation from high school was told that if he passed a battery of tests he would be accepted by an institution of higher learning and have all expenses paid. He worked hard with friendly tutors, and members of his family gave him daily prayerful support. But the verdict was against him. He failed some of the examinations in which he was most interested and best prepared. Prospects looked very dark. However, prayer was continued with the confidence that the sincere and earnest efforts—through faith and hope—could not fail. He found a job in a factory, and the work was begun with the understanding that there is no failure in the kingdom of heaven, our true spiritual state of being.

About a month later he received a communication stating that there would be a reconsideration of his qualifications for higher education. He provided sufficient information to satisfy the administrators, and he entered the higher educational program, where his success included good work in the subjects where the preliminary examinations had indicated his work was unsatisfactory.
