The Remedy for a Drab Outlook
'"Color is in us not 'in the rose.'" Rudimental Divine Science, p. 6; This statement, derived from the writings of a physical scientist of her day, is quoted by Mary Baker Eddy to illustrate the subjective nature of visible phenomena. It closely parallels that familiar saying, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
With these observations in mind it may be profitable to take a hard look inward if life seems drab and insipid. The chances are good that we ourselves, and not external circumstances, are coloring life in shades of gray.
How vital to our happiness—and our health—that we learn to look at life through the lens of spiritual sense! This is not merely putting on rose-colored glasses. It is learning through developed spiritual perception to see the beauty, joy, strength, and satisfaction inherent in an understanding of God, infinite divine Love—an understanding of man's life in God and of Him. Spiritual being is naturally bright and buoyant. As we claim our birthright as sons of God, somber moods will disappear.
