I had suffered for years with heart trouble when a neighbor invited me to go to a Christian Science lecture. I thought I gained very little from the lecture. Later, when I awoke one night with heart trouble again, an angel message from God came, "Why don't you try Christian Science?" I knew I was going to do it. I was ready to stop depending on doctors, hospitals, and shots. When I was strong enough, I went to visit my neighbor. I asked her to explain Christian Science to me. She explained the first two chapters of the Bible in the light of Christian Science. She gave me a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I walked home feeling like a new person.

Continuing my study of Christian Science, I had quick healings of indigestion, constipation, and a nervous condition. I was not entirely free from the heart condition, which had been diagnosed as coronary thrombosis, until about a year later. During that year I often called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful metaphysical treatment. I learned that God is always with me. As Mrs. Eddy writes, "God is infinite, therefore ever present, and there is no other power nor presence" (Science and Health, p. 471).

At the end of my first year's study of Science my daughter asked me to go to a heart specialist. To satisfy her an appointment was made to go within five days. Every one of those days I studied with a practitioner. We prayerfully read the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly together. I knew there would be nothing inharmonious for the specialist to see.
