The Healing Light of True Being

The plane rose quickly in heavy rain into thick layers of dark clouds. Suddenly it burst out into brilliant sunlight. To me, this symbolized rising above the darkness of mesmeric material thinking. This thought brought new spiritual enlightenment and, later, healing.

The revelation through Christian Science of the light of Truth dispelling the darkness of false, discordant belief gives added understanding of the emphasis the Bible places on "light." The first chapter of Genesis declares light good and darkness the opposite of good: "God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness."^{Gen. 1:3, 4;} And St. John said, "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."^{I John 1:5;}

Christian Science uses light as a symbol for good, for what is real and eternal, for spiritual enlightenment, and uses darkness as a symbol for evil, illusion, and ignorance. It shows that as we gain the light of true, spiritual, perfect being, we lose the darkness of false belief.
