The Best Thanksgiving Gift

People sometimes daydream about how nice it would be to have a lot of money. They think, perhaps, of young members of the family who could do with some help, of the church finances that need support, of the friend who is having a hard time making her pension stretch to meet rising costs. Probably a hundred worthwhile causes come to thought that they would like to support at the gift–giving season if they had the means.

Christian Science maintains that we all do have the means to help our friends and neighbors in a practical way. It tells us of God's impartial affluence, and shows how understanding the divine fact that He has already supplied all men's needs abundantly can guide us into giving intelligently from whatever means we appear humanly to have. This giving opens the door to God's treasure–house of spiritual gifts from which every need is met in full.

Christ Jesus was not a wealthy man as the world counts wealth, yet he was the greatest and most effective of all givers. He gave food to the hungry, health to the sick, comfort to the grief stricken, sight to the blind. Receptive people who asked his help did not go away unsatisfied.
