We should not seek an exclusive church made up of people who agree with the deacons or the majority or the ministers about the particular public issues of the decade. Issues will change from decade to decade, or even more often. What is needed is a deeper commitment to Christ and the gospel, which, we may hope, will have meaning for the decisive public issues of later decades. Differences of opinion on political issues are no reason for the churches to encourage members to withdraw.
