Shortly after my mother became interested in Christian Science...

Shortly after my mother became interested in Christian Science, I was enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School. I must have been receptive to the truths taught me, for although they lay dormant in my thought for some years, they later served to awake me, so that, as a result, I have experienced many moral and physical healings.

One has great significance. I was fifteen when I began smoking marijuana, and this insidious desire beguiled me for over eleven years. Smoking it wasn't enough; I began to buy and sell it. I picked and processed the weed and was also arrested for possessing it. By then, my life had become one of sensuality.

But these mortal extremes were God's opportunity to lead me back to His apodictical Science. I can bear witness to this statement in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 342): "Christian Science awakens the sinner." [The full sentence reads: "Christian Science awakens the sinner, reclaims the infidel, and raises from the couch of pain the helpless invalid."] In small degrees I began to regrasp the truths I had learned in Sunday School. I began to realize Mrs. Eddy's words in Science and Health (p. 253), "If you believe in and practise wrong knowingly, you can at once change your course and do right." I knew the infelicity and confusion in my life stemmed from a false belief of life in matter and disobedience to God's commandments. As long as I continued this way of living, I knew I would sink further into moral and physical oblivion.
