Which One Are You?
In the thinking of many of us there is frequent conflict between love and hate, good and evil, peace and discontent, productivity and ineffectiveness. At times there seem to be two distinct personalities within one individual.
The battle within thought will go on until the true status of man as the son of God comes fully to light. It needs to be perfectly understood and demonstrated that the spiritual man is really the original and only man and that the mortal, physical man is nothing but the counterfeit produced by the illusory material senses. Paul writes, "The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit." I Cor. 15:45; The apostle was contrasting the prototype of mortal man with Christ Jesus, who represented humanly the real, ideal man.
Christians will agree that there is but one God. In line with the Bible, the writings of Mrs. Eddy bring out very vividly that the real man is the image and likeness of God, hence there cannot be a dual personality. Man, the actual identity of the human individual, has to be spiritual. The human being should therefore be establishing, proving, his oneness, or wholeness, in every struggle into which he enters. Holding to and living the premise of absolute perfection, he can be sure of victory. The realization of man's harmonious individuality can change one's whole outlook, one's whole life.
