It's Never Too Late

Christian Science heals. A glance at the testimonies in this issue of the Sentinel should reassure a reader that Christian Science heals not only minds but bodies. But those of mature years who are newcomers to Science sometimes regret they waited so long to begin its study. They glimpse the tremendous possibilities it offers but feel that they are at a disadvantage, that the weight of age and penalties of the mortal process of deterioration are final, irreversible. They reason that younger bodies are more resilient and more capable of being restored than old ones, that years of hard work leave signs of wear that cannot be erased.

Yet the Bible tells us that one of Job's friends assured him of God's willingness to heal him in his extremity, regardless of years. He said: "If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him...thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning." Job 11:13-17; And we can prove today, whatever age a human being may seem to be, that one who understands God and His eternally perfect spiritual creation can be healed of any form of mortal problem. Faculties and capacities that seem to have been lost can be restored, teeth regained, and activity and usefulness reestablished.

Christian Science explains that human experience and the physical body are wholly governed by human thought. Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "A mortal man possesses this body, and he makes it harmonious or discordant according to the images of thought impressed upon it." Science and Health, p. 208; So when mortal belief changes or is corrected through the understanding of spiritual truth, the material body also changes in accordance with it.
