"When man is governed by God, the ever-present Mind who understands all things, man knows that with God all things are possible." These words from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 180), held me firm when a belief of infection of the liver overwhelmed me in a very painful and alarming manner.

To calm the fear of my children, who are not Christian Scientists, I allowed a physician to see me. He asked me to enter a sanatorium, since, according to him, there was need of an immediate surgical operation. The infection was said to be brought on by stones. But I had already asked a Christian Science practitioner for metaphysical treatment. The truths of this Science affirmed by her sustained me. She said that I should be calm and that they would not find anything because error is nothing. I recalled Mrs. Eddy's statement, "When the first symptoms of disease appear, dispute the testimony of the material senses with divine Science" (ibid., p. 390). Thus I struggled against the mortal beliefs. Despite being taken to the sanatorium, where they had me under observation, I was allowed to leave within forty-eight hours without any operation.

During the following months I showed marked improvement. The treatment during this time was metaphysical treatment in Christian Science. Finally another examination included taking a radiography. They found that the liver was perfectly healthy and without a single stone. Once again the perfect mental surgery that divine Mind can perform had taken place. In recognizing the fact of this marvelous result, I could only say, "Thank You, God." It had been proved that "man is never sick, for Mind is not sick and matter cannot be" (ibid., p. 393).
