God Is Not in the Wind

The area where we live is designated geophysically as the foehn area, a term widely used in the region of the Alps. The foehn is a warm wind that seemingly causes some people to suffer, so that even the word "foehn" produces in them an anticipation of queer mental and physical symptoms. Belief in the influence of this wind is carried so far that even criminal acts are explained by the influence of the foehn on the criminal.

I was unfamiliar with the foehn when I came to this region. It wasn't until after a few years, when I had seen the constant misery of others and began to observe the wind myself, that I too began to feel the supposed effect of the foehn on my head. Shortly after my first acquaintance with Christian Science, however, I was freed from it.

Mrs. Eddy's definition of "wind" reads: "That which indicates the might of omnipotence and the movements of God's spiritual government, encompassing all things. Destruction; anger; mortal passions." Science and Health, p. 597;
