Utilizing the Prism of Divine Science

During childhood it can be a never-ending delight to stand a glass prism in a sunny window and enjoy the effect of the rainbow tints that fall on various objects. Everyone enjoys the cheering sunshine and is thankful for its beneficent influence, but a fuller appreciation follows when we recall, through the use of a prism, that all colors are included in this apparently uncolored light.

We can use this illustration in connection with our understanding of God. A general appreciation of His nature brings a degree of uplift and inspires hope. Still, as Christian Science begins to unfold to us the specific elements of boundless good inherent in His nature —the warmth and nearness of Love, the all-intelligence of Mind, the undeviating rightness of Principle—we discern Him in more beautiful detail as "Truth's prism" heightens our insight.

Mrs. Eddy writes: "To mortal sense Science seems at first obscure, abstract, and dark; but a bright promise crowns its brow. When understood, it is Truth's prism and praise." Science and Health, p. 558; Divine Science does indeed enable us to cognize more of the varied aspects of God's nature; they are as ever present as God is, yet Science, when understood, increasingly sharpens our perception of their brilliant hues.
