A number of years ago I went to a doctor to get help for consumption. He told me that he could do nothing more for me, and that I could not live very long. I felt that I should look to God for help. I knew a couple who were Christian Scientists. I knew that they studied Bible Lessons every day. So I decided to buy a Quarterly and also Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I had a Bible, and I felt that as I read these Bible Lessons daily I would learn more about God and His power to help me. At that time I did not know that there were Christian Science practitioners. However, I looked to God and accepted the statement from Science and Health that "God is infinite, the only Life, substance, Spirit, or Soul, the only intelligence of the universe, including man" (p. 330).

From the Bible I accepted the fact that God is my Life. We read these words in Deuteronomy (30:20): "That thou mayest love the Lord thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice,...for he is thy life, and the length of thy days." I also accepted the truth that God is Love, that He is ever present, that He really loves me, and that as I accepted His love, I could see myself as He has created me.

As I studied the Bible Lessons on God, Sacrament, Life, Truth, and Love, I was healed in about six weeks. I felt that to really thank God, I should join a Church of Christ, Scientist.
