Limitless Courage

People sometimes wonder just how great their resources of courage are—how firmly they would withstand mental pressure and how long they would be able to remain steadfast in situations of apparent mortal danger. Many harbor secret doubts and fears that they might display a humiliating weakness of character. No one likes to be thought craven, lacking in spiritual stamina, chickenhearted.

Christian Science declares that these doubts and fears are all without foundation and can be overcome. It reveals that human courage is the outcome of immortal fearlessness, which is a quality of divine Principle, infinite, inexhaustible. And it shows that this sublime quality belongs by reflection in infinite measure to every individual offspring of God. Everyone can draw upon the limitless source of the divine Mind for that calm courage which flows from the conviction that God will sustain him under any circumstances.

Spiritual fearlessness is a gift from God that flows naturally to man. It requires no personal effort of human will to bring it into operation. Many people find that in moments of acute peril and pressure, sometimes even when discouragement and despair have apparently prevailed, they have suddenly experienced a resurgence of spiritual power and have been able to display unexpected evidence of strength—courage and power to endure—which far exceeds their usual capability.
