These words of Mary Baker Eddy's have been proven in my own experience (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 444): "Step by step will those who trust Him find that 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.'"

One healing that has always stood out to me as an inspiration in working out other problems was the healing of an abdominal tumor. This healing was slow and took many months of consecrated prayer on my part and, at times, the additional support of treatment by a Christian Science practitioner.

One night as I prayed to see the unreality of the problem, which was becoming more and more obvious, it suddenly came to me very forcibly that I was working for a healing. I immediately recognized the fact that what I needed to do was to work for a better understanding of God and of my relationship to Him, that this, not the healing, was the important thing. I was grateful for this awakening, and I felt new strength and purpose in my study of Christian Science.
