When I first became interested in Christian Science, I was healed...

When I first became interested in Christian Science, I was healed of the smoking habit. I had smoked for twenty-five years, and at the time of the healing I was smoking two packages of cigarettes a day.

In 1961, I was going regularly for medical attention about a painful condition of my throat, which at times seemed to cause me to lose my voice. Although the doctor had told me that smoking was harmful to me, I was unwilling to give up the habit. On my last visit to his office he told me that there was nothing more he could do for me.

Shortly after this visit I went with the family on a fishing trip. While we were fishing, I seemed in such distress that I reached out humbly to God. I prayed that if the cigarettes were harmful to me the taste would be removed, and instantaneously the pain and fear I had been experiencing disappeared. The desire to smoke left me completely, and the throat was healed. Prior to this healing I had, from time to time, attended Christian Science church services with my husband, who is a Christian Scientist. After this wonderful healing I became a student of Christian Science, a member of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and a member of a branch church.
