One afternoon while working with a propane blowtorch, I inadvertently drew the palm of my hand across the flame. The shock of the pain caused me to drop the item I was working with. Immediately I thrust the hand behind my back, refusing to look at it. I declared again and again, as we are taught in Christian Science, that there are no accidents in divine Mind, that it is impossible for a spiritual idea to be injured in any way.

After a while the pain subsided, and I continued with what I had been doing. I resisted the temptation to examine the hand. Later in the evening I happened to glance at it and found just a suggestion of pinkness, which vanished completely by the next day.

On another occasion, during an extremely dry spell of weather, some burning debris from a trash fire several blocks away blew into our immediate area. A forty-mile-an-hour wind rapidly created a frightening situation, since our home is located in a wooded section. The fire department responded quickly, and our neighborhood was told to wet down its property with garden hoses.
