Attendance at a Christian Science Sunday School has proved to be a great blessing to me. Although I drifted away from Christian Science when I was a young woman, the thoughts so tenderly expressed by my Sunday School teachers stayed with me. Each time a problem presented itself, I would recall some Bible story or specific truth learned earlier, and it usually helped. However, dependence on medical help gradually increased, and so did the number and the severity of the problems.

Then one night our younger son was very ill. I wakened to hear what had become a terrifyingly familiar gasping and choking. A severe form of croup had recurred almost monthly for a long time. Each time it had become necessary to call the doctor, and twice we had rushed the baby to the hospital for emergency treatment. We were warned that this temporary remedy was our only hope, and that the attacks would recur regularly until he was five or six years old.

Suddenly that night, as I stood by his bed, the words that I had read on the Christian Science Sunday School wall flashed into my mind (I John 4:16), "God is love." Then the statement that I had heard my Sunday School teachers repeat so often came to my thought: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 494). Surely this was a "human need"; and although the situation seemed terrifying, a loving God could not let a little baby be destined to suffer so for a period of years.
