The first words of God recorded in Genesis are (1:3): "And God ...

The first words of God recorded in Genesis are (1:3): "And God said, Let there be light." As a student of Christian Science, this most wonderful revelation came to me some years ago with renewed significance. Prior to this, in my daily study I had the feeling something wonderful would come to me, although I did not know how or when. Even my neighbors noticed it and said, You are the happiest woman we know."

On the day that it did happen I had a strong premonition something would be told me that day. I finished my housework, served my husband's lunch, and did the other things that needed my attention.

I was familiar with the verse in Habakkuk (2:1), I will stand upon my watch ... and will watch to see what he will say unto me" I joyfully waited. Suddenly I was conscious of spiritual light, which seemed to fill the whole room. When I realized what was happening, I said aloud, "Oh, how grateful I am! I am in God's presence. He Is here, and there is nothing else." Material evidence faded away. All I was conscious of was the light. All I could feel was a great happiness, and I knew that nothing exists but God and His ideas. Divine Mind had spoken to me, and I had heard!

At first I thought I would say nothing about this experience, but later I felt I must tell someone about it. I remembered what Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 57): "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it." A dear friend, a Christian Science practitioner, listened carefully while I related what had happened. She was silent for a period, and then said, "My dear child, true healing has been revealed to you. That was a revelation."

Since this revelation of God's omnipresence I have had many healings for myself and members of my family, the notable ones being the complete restoration of my forefinger, which had been severed at the base of the fingernail, and another when my son was healed after being struck by a car. He was unconscious for some time. The man who had hit him had taken him to a hospital, and the attending physicians said that he was dying. When I arrived at the hospital, I announced to the doctors that my son was under Christian Science treatment. Although the evidence from X rays showed a fractured hip and concussion of the head, we brought him home the following day. He completely recovered without medical aid and was walking in seven days.

I wish to express gratitude for Mrs. Eddy's great work and for the Cause of Christian Science, which is blessing the whole world. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a Christian Science Society, for class instruction, and for the worldwide activities of the Christian Science movement.

"In the universe of Truth, matter is unknown. No supposition of error enters there. Divine Science, the Word of God, saith to the darkness upon the face of error, 'God is All-in-all,' and the light of ever-present Love illumines the universe" (Science and Health. p. 503).

I am the daughter of Mrs. Vadah E. Deal, and I was present when my mother's finger was severed. I can verify all the facts which she states are true regarding my brother's recovery and the restoration of her finger. I too have had many blessings from Christian Science. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a Christian Science Society.
