The True Sense of Things That Heals

Christian Scientists are daily learning to see things as God made them—perfect. All that God made is intact and retains perfection throughout eternity, for God is the only power and presence that exists. Deviation from these facts in thought and life brings error into the experience of mortals. Gaining a right sense of things brings healing.

Error is just a mistake. A mistaken sense of things can always be put out of thought and replaced with the right sense of things. This is the way healing takes place; it is gained through prayer, watching and working, denying error and affirming the truth. I once heard someone say that "error is an unreasoning belief in the impossible." Error is impossible in God's sight and should be so in ours.

Clifford P. Smith relates that Mrs. Eddy's son, who lived in South Dakota, visited his mother in Boston. On this visit he told her that his daughter's eyes were crossed. Mrs. Eddy's reply was, "You must be mistaken, George; her eyes are all right."Historical Sketches, p. 71; When the son arrived home, he was so anxious to see if the eyes of the little girl were all right that he and his wife awakened her, although she was asleep. They saw immediately that the child's eyes were indeed all right, no longer crossed.
