About nine years ago while walking down the street in a large Canadian city, I passed a literature distribution box outside a Church of Christ, Scientist. I took The Christian Science Journal home with me, and upon reading it, knew that it was God's answer to my recent prayer to be shown the truth of being and how to live a better life.

At this time I was underweight. I was receiving liver shots once a week from a doctor. I also took almost a bottle of aspirin a week for headaches. I always carried a package of pills in my pocket for heartburn. I had been in the hospital for two weeks in each of the previous two years. I also had a very bad habit of swearing. After the first reading of the Journal and even before reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I knew that I would never use these things again. I never went back to the doctor again or took another pill. The swearing habit completely disappeared from that day on. I gained forty pounds of weight in about two months and have been in better health than any time previously in my life.

About six months later while playing hockey, I was hit in the eye with a puck, which cut it badly and closed the eye tight. This was on Sunday. I phoned a Christian Science practitioner, who started treatment immediately. I was able to go to work the next day. The following Thursday I was back playing hockey, completely free except for a little blurring that disappeared within a few days.
